Today I am working on Izannah Walker dolls again, trying to get a sweeter face. I've used the second head and it was much easier to sculpt but the stockinette covering was still difficult and probably will show the little seams. I am adding a picture of the last little Diane clown I made too.

Izannah Walker Workshop

I have been working for 2 weeks on 3 Izannah Walker Dolls in Dixie Redmond's workshop online. I haven't worked with sculpting before and this was very challenging. I just forged ahead and feel I learned a bit about sculpting with paperclay & painting a dolls face. I think you have to make these dolls over and over to get the hang of it....Here is my second doll which I completed once didn't like and redid the head. The little doll was the companion doll with a sculptured head as well.

First Izannah Walker Doll

I've named her Jane and she is my first sculpted, made to look, antique doll, inspired by a Izannah Walker Doll. I antiqued her body and head and it wasn't the best job but she is a keeper as is....
I hope she didn't mind but I gave her face a "better shape" and took away the antique wash. Her eyes were bulgy and her chin too big. It's great how you can redo anything on paper clay. I also changed one of the companion's face paint after it was finished. Here's Jane's new look.

Izannah Walker Workshop

Here are 3 dolls I am scupting with creative paperclay of the Izannah Walker doll pattern by Dixie Redmond. This is an online class. The class is a challenge and so far I am doing pretty good, I think although I have had doubts of my ability to do this but I am charging ahead and have learned a lot. It takes lots of time and I am no where near done there are arms and legs to make and gesso and more paint.......
Having fun even with all the worry and doubt.

This is a Mimi Winer pattern. I loved the body of this doll. She has a "combination" & a corset....It was a challenge to figure it all out....I did change the face.....I couldn't decide about the feathers on the hat but I think I like the pink best, it goes along better with her youth.



I love this pattern which Diane Little gave us in her class.....This is suppose to be a little clown. Until I pinned up her hat she looked like a little witch, I guess the colors helped too but now I hope she looks like a clown. Next time I will use white colored body fabric and more clown like colors.
I hope to learn a lot more this year about Doll Making. I will be taking the Izannah Walker class in January. Making these dolls is a therapy as well as a learning process, and just fun. It's a wonderful hobby.
